Scioto Southland
Civic Association

Accomplishments

Scioto Southland Civic Association and it's members have worked hard to establish a connection with the residents and businesses in there area. The members of our group work on a 100% volunteer basis. Giving of their own time and resources it is a real commitment to serve the community in which they live and work. The payoff is seeing some of the wonderful things they have worked towards come to fruition.
The following is just some of the great things that the civic group has been able to accomplish over the past few years.

- Worked with the City's Operation Safewalks Project to target areas of the city that were in desperate need of sidewalks for the safety of it's residents.  This resulted in the recent sidewalks along South High Street. Sidewalks will also be built along Obetz Road in the Spring of 2011.

-Created the Scioto Southland Area Plan and Overlays which creates standards and recommendations to the City of Columbus for use and development in the area.

-Awarded two Neighborhood Partnership grants totaling $20,000.00 through the Columbus Foundation and The United Way of Central Ohio. These grants are going towards beautification projects in our area including the new entry way sign erected on S. High St. Future projects will include street light post banners,  trees planted, and marketing development for the area.

-Through cooperation with the City of Columbus' Recreation and Parks and Department of Development a new outside recreation facility totaling $500,000.00 will be constructed at Indian Mound Recreation Center. This includes a new soccer field, additional parking, sheltered picnic areas, trees, nature path, improved playground equipment and more.

-Annual Candidates breakfast has become a must stop on any candidate's list of where to meet and great the voters.

- Established a good neighbor agreement with Community Housing Network which set precedence for all future building projects in the future.

-Worked with the Department of Development to come to an agreement about the City's Impound Lot relocation. Keeping the resident's of Castle Road in their homes instead of them being acquired by the city of Columbus. The alternate of Haul Road was established.

-Annual scholarships given to a student from both Marion Franklin High School and Hamilton Township High School.

-Sent members of the community to the Regional Neighborhood Network Conference for the past three years.

-Established excellent working relationships with the City of Columbus to promote the well-being of the Scioto Southland Civic area and the Far South Side as a whole.

-Annual Toy Shop with Santa event collects toys from area residents and businesses. We hold an open to the public event for every child to receive a quality toy and a chance to meet Santa Claus. An average of 150 children attend this event each year.

-Donate school supplies each year to local churches to give out to the children of their congregation.

-Area clean-ups twice a year using donated equipment from Keep Columbus Beautiful and Shelly Materials.
