Who We Are

Scioto Southland Civic Association is a group of residents and businesses within the Far South Side of Columbus that are concerned and proactive on the overall well-being of our area.  We work with the City of Columbus on important issues such as zonings, beautification, health issues, safety, education, and so much more.
Originally founded as Save Our Southside in 1991, the civic association has had a long history of successful accomplishments for the improvement of the Far Southside.

Scioto Southland Area Plan
With the colaboration of the City of Columbus Planning Division we developed an area plan  that was adopted by Columbus City Council in October of 2008.  The plan took about 2 years to complete and was a combined effort between residents, businesses and the City planning division to ensure that future development will be a positive addition to our area.  To see the entire Scioto Southland Area Plan click here

FAR SOUTH COLUMBUS AREA COMMISSION TO HOLD TOWN HALL MEETING REGARDING TRAFFIC CONCERNS AT RATHMELL ROAD AND STATE ROUTE 23.

When: Tuesday, April 19, 2011, 6:30-8:00 PM

Where: Indian Mound Recreation Center, 3901 Parsons Ave. Columbus, OH 43207

Due to the many concerns of the community, the Far South Columbus Area Commission is holding a town hall meeting with the cooperation and sponsorship of area civic associations, block watches, Hamilton Township, Lockbourne, local businesses, churches, and concerned residents. The Town Hall will address the issues of safety and traffic patterns regarding the intersection of State Route 23 and Rathmell Road.  Since 1998, thirteen people have lost their lives at this particular intersection.  This does not count the many accidents that happen on a regular basis at this same location.

Those in attendance will include representatives from the City of Columbus, Columbus Police Department, ODOT, Lockbourne, Hamilton Township, area business, area volunteer organizations, and churches.  There will also be testimonies from those that have lost family and firsthand accounts of those affected by the traffic situation at Rathmell Rd. and St. Rt. 23.

The Far South Columbus Area Commission is holding the meeting to gain answers for what the City of Columbus intends to do regarding this deadly intersection. This is a public and open community event.
